Lagoons in the desert
In north eastern Brazil lurks a wonder of the world, fifteen hundred square kilometres of fine white quartz sand dunes extending 50 Km inland from the coast. Stretching along 40 Km of coastline, Lençóis Maranhenses National Park is in Maranhao state at the edge of the Amazon basin, and the annual watery peak has begun. Dozens of temporary lagoons form every year between the dunes after the southern autumn’s rainy season.
